Parliamentary evening on ‘Reboot Europe’

More than 40 Members of the European Parliament and BusinessEurope members’ leadership gathered on 15 January in the EP, on the invitation of MEP Siegfried Mureșan, to discuss how to reboot European policies in this new EU cycle. Ahead of the EU elections last year, we launched our #RebootEurope campaign, sharing our vision for a strong and prosperous Europe. Now, with the new legislative cycle underway, it’s time to turn vision into action. Our new publication, Reboot Europe: Europe’s economic success – everyone’s business, outlines a clear roadmap to help millions of companies to invest, innovate, and deliver quality goods and services at competitive prices.

Europe needs an urgent reboot to restore its competitiveness

Today, BusinessEurope released its business priorities for the next EU cycle: "Reboot Europe: Europe’s economic success – everyone’s business". This will be the focus of our event this evening in the European Parliament, which will bring together MEPs and the leadership of our member federations. "Europe’s economy is falling behind", said our President Fredrik Persson. "EU’s economic stagnation threatens our ability to achieve the vital green, digital, social and security transitions. We are calling for a reboot of European policies in this new EU cycle to address the structural weaknesses that are undermining our companies’ efforts to deliver for society."

Pro-European majority needs to put competitiveness front and centre

BusinessEurope and the entire European business community congratulate the new Members of the European Parliament on their election and welcome the strong voter turnout across the continent that proves that citizens care about Europe. Our President Fredrik Persson said: "EU elections have seen a clear winner. We urge the main political forces to organise the pro-European majority in the European Parliament to take the necessary action to improve competitiveness and agree upon the future EU leaders as soon as possible. BusinessEurope is an EP Communication Partner for the 2024 European elections

We are excited to announce that BusinessEurope is an official communication partner for the 2024 European Parliament elections. The business community's commitment to actively contributing to the democratic process is crucial for a thriving business environment. On 6 May, we participated in the Partnership Agreement Reception with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and fellow partners in preparation for the upcoming European elections. Metsola’s message at the ceremony was strong: We should not take Europe or the right to vote for granted. Together we can make a difference; let’s make every vote count.

Reboot Europe in press

President Fredrik Persson discussed the EU's competitiveness and the challenges ahead in his interview with the Financial Times that was featured in their newsletter Europe Express on 9 April. “We need to reboot our system and refocus on competitiveness. We need regulation to be workable, or we won’t be successful,” Persson said. Director General Markus J Beyrer talked to Bloomberg about the trade aspects addressed in the paper: “We need to deal with economic security, but at the same time, we need an ambitious trade agenda.” He also presented our priorities at the ‘Talking Europe’ show on France 24. Politico’s Pro Trade Newsletter as well wrote about our campaign under the title ‘Business lobby enters campaign mode’.

EU Elections: Europe needs a reboot to restore its competitiveness

BusinessEurope has launched its campaign today for policy changes for the next EU political cycle, under the motto ‘Reboot Europe’. Commenting on what Europe needs to do during the next five years, BusinessEurope President Fredrik Persson said: “Faced with multiple geopolitical risks and economic uncertainty, the EU must put competitiveness at the forefront and use the next EU cycle to reboot its policies for today’s challenges. After five years focused on regulating the green and digital transitions, the EU needs to improve its attractiveness as an investment location".

Discussing European elections with the French business community

President Fredrik Persson participated in the REF Europe event organised by our French member federation Medef, on March 28. This event centred around the 2024 European elections. Persson addressed various hot topics in Europe, including enlargement, overregulation, competitiveness, and the Green Deal. Fredrik Persson stated, "Europe's strength comes from its economic weight. Presently, this weight is eroded. To make Europe stronger globally, the EU must concentrate on enhancing Europe's competitiveness and making it the place to invest."
